Dr. Randy Volkmer was born on August 14th, 1964 in Fort Hood, Texas. He is a 1982 graduate of Bay City High School. He followed his high school years with nine years of college, seven of those nine years were at Texas A&M in College Station. He is an Aggie for life. In 1987 he married the love of his life Lisa Piwonka. They have two sons, Randy II and Karson. Both are third generation to attend and graduate from Bay City ISD and both attended and graduated from Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The older son Randy is finishing his orthopedic surgery residency and will start practice in September of 2025. The younger son Karson, after finishing his Nuclear Engineering degree at Texas A&M attended law school and is currently a supervising attorney for South Texas Nuclear Project.
Lisa graduated from Texas A&M in College Station in 1991 with a degree in Education and taught in the classroom for over 20 years. She then studied and received a Masters of Administration in Education and took a job as head of Federal Programs and eventually Human Resources for Bay City ISD.
Dr. Volkmer himself has two Bachelor of Science degrees from Texas A&M and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. He began his professional career in his hometown of Bay City Veterinary Clinic & Equine Hospital and has now been there now for almost 34 years. The practice has grown during this time tremendously and currently has 4 full time (soon to be 5) Veterinarians and a large support staff.
Dr. Volkmer is a past and present member of various community and professional organizations. Some of the professional are: Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, and the Texas Equine Veterinary Association. Some of the community are: Bay City Independent School District Board of Trustees, BCISD School Foundation, American Red Cross, Women's Crisis Center, Rotary, Matagorda County Fair Board, Little League Board and Coach, and the Matagorda County A&M Club.
Like all of the doctors at Bay City Veterinary Clinic & Equine Hospital, he has the same vision for quality care and treatment of his patients. He will continue to strive to offer the latest advancements in Veterinary Medicine by having state of the art facilities, equipment, and a highly trained and motivated staff.
