Dr. Joshua Savage Shield grew up in Bay City, TX. He graduated from Bay City High School in 2002. He studied Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science in 2006. In May 2012, he graduated from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Shield joined the veterinarian team at Bay City Veterinary Clinic & Equine Hospital.
Dr. Shield is proud of his family heritage and is the 9th generation of his family in Matagorda County. He discovered his passion for working with animals while working on his family's farm and ranch. He married his high school sweetheart Debra Manna in 2007. They now have three boys, Hudson, Paxton, and Canon. They also have a chocolate labrador, Sully, a miniature schnauzer, Darcy, and a three-legged cat, Trixie.
Dr. Shield is an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and is currently on the Matagorda County Cattlemen’s board. Dr. Shield is a member of Texas Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and Society For Theriogenology.
Dr. Shield continues to strive for excellence in veterinary medicine. He prides himself on treating clients like family and every patient as if they were his pet.
